PRENATAL CHIROPRACTOR NORTH BAY

You Don’t Have to Spend Your Pregnancy Uncomfortable

Pregnancy asks a lot of your body, and a lot of that gets dismissed as “just part of being pregnant.” It doesn’t have to be. At Landriault Chiropractic, we help women across North Bay feel supported, mobile, and well through every stage of pregnancy with gentle chiropractic care.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?

The short answer is yes, when performed correctly. With prenatal adjustments, we use gentle pressure, and the whole approach is adapted for what your body is doing during pregnancy.

We have pregnancy pillows that let you comfortably lay on your tummy; most moms tell us it’s the best they’ve felt in weeks. If you’re more comfortable on your side or seated, we can work that way too. And for women who’d rather not be adjusted by hand, we use a small instrument called the ArthroStim that delivers a gentler, low-force adjustment.

As Dr. Jayla says: We’’ll never adjust you in a way that surprises you. We’’ll show you exactly what we’re going to do before we do it, and nothing happens until you’re comfortable.”

“I highly recommend Landriault Chiropractic“

“Myself, my husband, and my kids have all seen Dr. Jayla. She has lots of experience and helped me with my concerns (motherhood related).

We have all also been seen by Dr. Landriault when Dr. Jayla was away, and his care was just as good. 10/10 best chiropractors in town.“

Supporting You Through Each Trimester

Pregnancy is one of the most physically demanding seasons your body will ever go through. Hormones loosen ligaments. Weight redistributes. Your pelvis shifts. Your spine compensates. And underneath all of that, your nervous system is doing the work of coordinating it: adapting, day after day, often in a body that feels less and less like the one you know.

First Trimester

You’re welcome here from the moment you find out. Some women come in as soon as they get a positive test, and some don’t realize they can come in this early at all.

Early pregnancy is often quieter physically: fatigue, some early back tension, occasional discomfort that doesn’t quite make sense yet. What we’re doing at this stage is getting to know your body and your history, identifying areas that are likely to feel the strain as your pregnancy progresses, and helping you start from a place of support rather than playing catch-up later.

Some women also come in while they’re trying to conceive. Not as a fertility treatment; that’s not what chiropractic is, but to support nervous system function and spinal mobility during a season their body is asking a lot of.

As Dr. Jayla says: “I had a patient recently who didn’t see me through her first pregnancy. The second time around, she came in around eight weeks. A few visits in, she told me, ‘this is a totally different pregnancy. I’m not uncomfortable. I have more energy.’ That’s the difference earlier care can make.”

Here’s why women come in during the first trimester:

  • A first check-up after a positive test
  • Persistent fatigue or early back tension
  • Pre-pregnancy planning while trying to conceive
  • Sleep difficulties as the body begins shifting
  • Nervous system support during early pregnancy changes
  • Mobility through the start of pregnancy

Second Trimester

This is when most moms find us, and it’s a great time to start.

By the second trimester, the bump is showing up, the weight is starting to shift, ligaments are loosening, and the pelvis is doing real work. The discomforts that were vague in the first trimester start becoming specific. Low back tightens. Hips feel locked up. Sleep gets harder.

Care at this stage tends to be more frequent than the first trimester because there’s more for your body to adapt to. We work together on what your body needs that day, and most moms are surprised by how much better they feel after just a few visits, especially once they’ve spent some time on the pregnancy pillow.

Here’s why women come in during the second trimester:

  • Low-back and pelvic discomfort that builds gradually
  • Hip and pelvic tightness affecting how you walk and sit
  • Sleep difficulties as the bump grows
  • Energy and overall function while juggling work or other kids
  • Tension that builds and doesn’t ease on its own
  • Wanting support before the third trimester begins

Third Trimester

The third trimester is the most demanding phase, both for you and for the work we’re doing.

Your baby is growing rapidly in the final weeks, your body weight is changing faster than your spine and pelvis can fully adapt to, and the strain on everything increases. Most moms in their third trimester need more frequent visits: sometimes weekly, sometimes more, because their body is working against more, faster.

We’re honest with women who come in for the first time at this stage: we can help you feel more comfortable, and we’re glad you’re here. We could have done more if you’d come in earlier. Both things are true. The case for not waiting is real, but it’s also never too late to start.

Here’s why women come in during the third trimester:

  • Increased low-back and pelvic discomfort
  • Sleep struggles as the body grows heavier
  • More frequent visits to keep up with rapid changes
  • Tension and tightness in the hips, pelvis, and back
  • Preparing the body for the final weeks
  • Support through the most physically demanding stage of pregnancy

What Your First Visit Looks Like

Described in Dr. Preston’s own words, from her firsthand experience

Step 1: The Consultation

Every first visit starts in the consultation room. We’ll review your paperwork and then we’ll talk. I want to hear about how you’ve been feeling, how the pregnancy has been going so far, what’s keeping you up at night, what’s surprised you, what you’re hoping I can help with. There are no rushed conversations here. Your time with me is yours. If your partner is with you, they’re welcome to join.

Step 2: The Hands-On Assessment

Next, I’ll do a gentle physical assessment, adapted entirely for pregnancy. I look at your posture, check how your spine is moving, and assess areas where pregnancy tends to put the most strain. Nothing about the assessment asks you to do anything uncomfortable for your body in its current state. I’ll explain what I’m checking for as I go.

Step 3: The Thermal Scan

From there, our office manager Julie takes you for a thermal scan: a small, non-invasive instrument with two little wheels that roll up the spine. There’s no radiation. It picks up areas of nervous system tension that I can’t detect with my hands alone. We do three scans for accuracy, and you’ll get a printed copy to take home. To answer the question we get most: no, we don’t take x-rays during pregnancy.

Step 4: The Report Visit

Within 24 to 48 hours, you’ll come back for what we call the report visit. I’ll walk you through what the scan showed, what I found in the assessment, and what I’d recommend. You’ll get every question answered and a clear plan you can decide on at your own pace. Adjustments only begin after you’ve had time to digest everything and given full informed consent.

Dr. Jayla Preston, DC focuses on pregnancy, infant, and pediatric chiropractic at Landriault Chiropractic Health Centre in North Bay, Ontario.

About Dr. Jayla Preston

I grew up in chiropractic. My dad, Dr. Tom Preston, has been a chiropractor in North Bay for over 40 years, and I’ve been adjusted since the day I was born. Years before that, my dad treated a young athlete in town who was thinking about giving up on sports because of an injury. That patient was Rob Landriault. He fell in love with chiropractic, became a chiropractor himself, and years later, when I’d finished chiropractic school, he opened up a space for me at Landriault Chiropractic.

I’ve built my practice around babies, children, and pregnant women, and I serve families throughout North Bay and the surrounding communities. From West Ferris to Pinewood, from Marshall Park to Trout Lake, our office is centrally located and easy to reach. We also welcome families from Callander, Powassan, Corbeil, Astorville, and Sturgeon Falls.

If you’re looking for a pediatric chiropractor in North Bay who takes the time to understand your child before recommending care, I’d love to meet you.

A few months ago, I was in so much pain from my neck all the way down to my lower back. The pain became so bad that I could barely sleep, and even turning in bed was difficult. My sleep was constantly disrupted, and the pain was affecting my everyday life and even my mood. I was frustrated, exhausted, and honestly getting to the point where I felt like I couldn’t handle it anymore. I even went to my doctor in tears because I was struggling so much with the pain. One day, I was talking to my coworker Lorraine about my back pain, and she told me about her experience at Landriault Chiropractic. She had been dealing with pain herself and spoke so highly of the clinic and how much better she felt. Hearing about her experience gave me hope, so I didn’t hesitate—I called and made an appointment. I honestly couldn’t believe the difference. By my third visit, I started noticing a BIG change. I don’t know what kind of magic Dr. Robert was doing, but I could feel my body improving! 😂❤️ The pain that had been controlling my life was finally getting better. Now, I can honestly say that I’m feeling so much better. I’m sleeping well again, I can move and turn without the same pain, and I feel like I have my life back. It’s hard to explain how grateful I am to finally have relief after struggling for so long. A huge THANK YOU to Dr. Robert and the entire team at Landriault Chiropractic for the care, kindness, and professionalism. I’m so thankful my coworker recommended this clinic to me! If you’re struggling with neck or back pain and looking for a chiropractor, I highly recommend Landriault Chiropractic. My experience has been absolutely wonderful, and I’m so happy I made that first phone call. ❤️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you, Dr. Robert, for helping me get back to sleeping, moving, and feeling like myself again!

Dr Landriault is absolutely incredible! I have suffered migraines for most of my life and was very nervous about chiropractic care. Several people recommended him to me and so I made an appointment for assessment. The staff are so kind and welcoming. The initial tests and scans were gentle. Every step was explained and i learned so much. I have not had a headache since my first adjustment, this has been life changing! Thank you dr Landriault!

What Moms-to-Be Ask Us Most Often

There’s no wrong time. Most women come in during the second trimester, when the bump shows up and the body starts asking for help. That’s a great time to start. Earlier is also fine. If you’re already trying to conceive or you’ve just found out you’re pregnant, you’re welcome here. The earlier we start, the more we can support before the heavier physical changes set in.
No. Prenatal adjustments are gentle. We use light pressure adapted for what your body is doing during pregnancy, and we have pregnancy pillows, side-lying positions, and an instrument-based option for women who’d rather not be adjusted by hand. Dr. Jayla shows you exactly what she’s going to do before she does it, and nothing happens until you’re comfortable.
It’s not too late, but we’re honest with women who find us in their third trimester: we can help you feel more comfortable, and we’re glad you’re here. We could have done more if you’d come in earlier. Both things are true. If you’re considering a first visit late in pregnancy, it’s still worth it.
Yes. Many of our prenatal patients are seeing a chiropractor for the first time. Pregnancy is actually a common entry point for women who hadn’t thought about chiropractic before. The whole approach is gentle and adapted for pregnancy, and the first visit is built around understanding your body and your concerns. There’s no commitment beyond that conversation.
Not at all. Some women see us through pregnancy and we leave it there. About half of our prenatal patients continue afterward, because their body has just been through one of the biggest physical events it’ll ever go through, and they want support through the recovery. Either choice is fine; you’ll know what feels right.
Yes. Many of our prenatal patients bring their babies in within the first weeks after birth, sometimes for feeding or sleep concerns, sometimes for a foundational check before anything goes wrong.
